Energy Decentralization: The New Biomass Thermal Power Plant Commissioned in Ovruch
Polissian TPP has a capacity of 5.9 MW, the investments in the facility amounted to more than 10 million euros. The plant is climate-neutral and runs on biomass – residual woods from the wood-processing industry, forest sanitation, and energy willow, which grows near the TPP.
A New Wood-Fired Thermal Power Plant Is about to Launch in Ovruch: What You Need to Know about the Facility
Ukrspetsteplo LLC, which belongs to the group of companies Ukrteplo, operates a network of biomass boiler plants in the following regions: Kyiv, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi, Poltava, Odesa, and Ternopil. Overall, there are 33 boiler plants with a total installed capacity of 40.3 MW.
Season in Review: Boiler Plants of Ukrteplo Produced over 62 Thousand Gcal of Heat from Biofuels
0.5–1 MW small boiler plants are located mainly in small towns. The facilities run on biofuels and supply heating to kindergartens, schools and hospitals.
The main advantage of such boiler plants is that they use local fuels, which usually cost less than gas. Consequently, local authorities spend fewer funds on heating and allocate more resources to their expenditures. Moreover, biofuels provoke the reduction of the consumption of imported gas. Overall, boiler plants of Ukrteplo replaced over 9 million cubic meters of gas in the previous heating season. This led to saving at least 38 million hryvnias from the Ukrainian budget. This sum could have gone on imported fuel but instead remained within the country and served for the domestic economy.
According to the founder of the Group of Companies Ukrteplo, Ivan Nadein, the company is currently implementing ambitious projects in renewable energy. It is completing the construction of a 5.9 MW Bio-TPP in Ovruch (Zhytomyr region) and is building an 8.6 MW Bio-TPP in Tokmak (Zaporizhia region).
Moreover, in the fall of 2019, Ukrteplo launched new facilities, such as a 4.2 MW solar power plant in Vinnytsia region and a 2.7 MW biogas plant in Mariupol.
“We are also keeping biofuel boiler plants in our project portfolio because that was our starting point in 2011. These facilities currently serve an important social impact along with the commercial function,” mentioned Ivan Nadein.
The Group of Companies Ukrteplo is one of the market leaders of renewable energy in Ukraine. The company was founded in 2011 and since then successfully implemented over 1 000 projects in 14 regions of Ukraine. The company`s staff is over 1 400 employees. Priority areas of activities: heat production from renewable sources; electricity production from renewable sources (biogas, the sun, hydro); energy plant cultivation.
The Group of Companies Ukrteplo has launched the solar power plant in Vinnytsia region
The capacity of the first line of the solar power plant is 2 MW, over 2 mln euros have been invested in the project.
The Group of Companies Ukrteplo has launched the biogas plant in Mariupol
The 1,2 MW plant would produce electricity from biogas which comes from the landfill of solid household wastes in the Left Bank District of the city. Over 2 mln euros have been invested in the project. The biogas plant would have a significant economic and social-ecological impact on Mariupol and the region.

Gas Cut-off in Slavutych: The City Avoided Freezing Owing to the Biofuel Boiler Plant
The largest Ukrainian biofuel boiler plant with a capacity of 10,5 MW launched in the city of Slavutych
The boiler plant meets 40 percent of the city`s heat energy and hot water needs. Due to the use of renewable energy sources, the city of Slavutych will be capable to save at least 4 million hryvnias during the next heating season. It is also expected to reduce natural gas consumption by 7 million cubic meters.
